Ushuaia Argentina

HISTORY

Ushuaia, is a city of the Argentine Republic that is located in the Department of Ushuaia of the Province of Tierra del Fuego. It was founded on October 12, 1884 by Augusto Lasserre as Fort Ushuaia. It is surrounded by the Martial mountain range. In addition to being an administrative center, it is an industrial, port and tourist hub. The word Ushuaia comes from the yagán language: ush ('at the bottom') and waia ('bay' or 'cove') and means 'deep bay or bay at the bottom'. Ushuaia is the only city in the country that is accessed by crossing part of the Andes mountain range that runs along the southern edge of the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego.

It is said that the first settlers of these lands were nomadic hunters who, more than 11 millennia ago, came on foot from the north to what is today the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego, a territory that was still connected to continental Patagonia. The urban area is divided into large sections designated with letters. By 2009, the city was made up of 94 official neighborhoods. At the end of 2015, surrounding areas were in the process of urbanization, such as the Andorra valley and the Pipo river sector.

TRANSPORTATION

National Route No. 3 is the only land communication route that passes through Ushuaia until it reaches its end in Lapataia Bay in the Tierra del Fuego National Park. There are private collective transport companies that make a tour of Ushuaia.

The port of Ushuaia is located in Ushuaia Bay, in the northern part of the Beagle Channel. Naval transport ships, commercial, tourist and scientific ships arrive. It is the second port in the country (after Buenos Aires) in terms of container traffic and the main port in the Southern Hemisphere. Regarding tourist cruises. It is very important because it is the gateway to Antarctica. Cruise ships visiting the Falkland Islands and Antarctica dock at this port.

SPORTS

The sport of Ushuaia is variable as a result of the confluence of different immigrant communities, with the traditional experiences of the sports typical of the place. These, in turn, reflect the possibilities offered by the unique Ushuaian landscape: the Andes Mountains neighboring the Beagle Channel. These scenarios are appropriate for the so-called "regional sports", such as: mountaineering (in its modalities of rock or ice climbing), hiking, the different variants of downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, (combines cross-country skiing with target shooting), cross-country skiing, snowboarding, skating and ice hockey, sport fishing, sailing in all its variants (rowing, sailing or motor), diving, etc. .

BARS

In case you like to enjoy a delicious, totally local beer such as QUILMES (light beer with a mild flavor) I recommend DUBLIN is an Irish-style Pub where you can enjoy a good atmosphere and service, they also have sports bar food service.
