Writer: Alex Parra ArcosAlex Parra Arcos

It is the capital and second most populous city of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the emirate of the same name. Abu Dhabi is located on a T-shaped island southeast of the Persian Gulf. In the mid-20th century, Abu Dhabi's economy was still based on camel farming, the production of dates and vegetables in the inland oases of Al Ain and Liwa, fishing and pearl-hunting off the shores of the city of Abu Dhabi, mainly busy during the summer months. Most of the settlements in the city of Abu Dhabi were made of palm fronds, while wealthy families lived in mud huts. The growth experienced by the pearl industry during the first half of the 20th century made life more difficult for the inhabitants of Abu Dhabi, as pearls were their main export and source of income.

The city experiences a desert climate with extreme temperatures. Sunny and blue skies predominate throughout the year. The months of June to September are usually hot and humid, with temperatures averaging over 40 ° C (104 ° F). At this time, isolated sandstorms can occur, in some cases reducing visibility to a few meters.

Abu Dhabi is the richest emirate in the United Arab Emirates in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and per capita income. GDP per capita reached $ 63,000, 12 which is well above the average income of the United Arab Emirates and ranks third in the world after Luxembourg and Norway. Abu Dhabi also plans many shared future projects with the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf.

Most of the inhabitants of Abu Dhabi are expatriate workers and professionals from Bangla

desh, India, Pakistan, Egypt, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and other parts of the world. The use of English and Urdu is also widespread. The city of Abu Dhabi is a modern city with wide avenues, high-rise office and apartment buildings, and lively shops. The main thoroughfares are The Corniche, Airport Road, Sheikh Zayed Street, Hamdan Street, and Khalifa Street. Many streets are known for the number of specialized businesses they contain. Hamdan Street is the main shopping street, banks abound on Khalifa Street, while Al Najdha Street is famous for its hardware stores, Defense St is lined with phone shops and Sheikh Zayed St (also known as Electra Street) is the street. dedicated to computing.

Two teams from Abu Dhabi have stood out in the Arab Gulf Soccer League: Al-Wahda was four-time champion and three-time runner-up, while Al-Jazeera was once champion and four-time runner-up. Additionally, the FIFA Club World Cup was played in Abu Dhabi in 2009 and 2010.

Transport. The Abu Dhabi International Airport, with IATA code (AUH), connects the city by air. Local time is UTC + 4. The main means of road transport in the city are private vehicles and taxis, although there are also public buses, managed by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi, but it is the population with the least purchasing power that uses them. There are bus routes to nearby towns such as Baniyas, Habashan, and Al Ain (the garden city of the UAE), among others. There is a more recent service, which started in 2005 between Abu Dhabi and the commercial city of Dubai (about 160 km).

It occupies an area of 200,000 square meters, 1 86,000 of them covered, being the largest covered park in the world.
